- Business registration proof (Shop Act, Partnership Deed, or Company Incorporation Certificate)
- Address proof (utility bill, rent agreement, etc.)
- Bank account details (bank statement or canceled cheque)
- Digital Signature (for companies and LLPs)
Step 3: Register on the GST Portal
- Visit GST Portal
- Click on ‘New Registration’
- Fill in details (PAN, mobile number, email)
- Verify with OTP and receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN)
- Log in using TRN, complete the application, and upload documents
Step 4: Get Your GSTIN
- GST officers verify the application.
- If approved, you receive your GSTIN (GST Identification Number) and GST Registration Certificate within a few days.
Step 5: Update Business Documents & Software
- Update invoices to include GSTIN and tax rates
- Update billing/accounting software for GST compliance
- Inform customers and suppliers about your GSTIN
Step 6: Understand GST Returns & Payments
- File monthly or quarterly GST returns based on your category.
- Pay GST online via the GST portal before the due date.
Step 7: Claim Input Tax Credit (ITC)
If you purchase goods/services with GST, you can claim tax credit while filing returns to reduce your tax liability.
By following these steps, your small business will be GST-compliant and ready to operate seamlessly within the tax framework.
